Oligopeptide-34 is a small molecule of protein, which is also known as a peptide. It consists of 13 strung up amino acids that address the formation of melanin. Oligopeptide-34 decreases tyrosinase activity and melanin synthesis in the skin’s pigment cells (melanocytes). It then prevents more melanosomes to transfer to keratinocyte cells. Oligopeptides are a common ingredient in skincare products. This is because their benefits to the skin are similar to that of retinoids. But oligopeptides are becoming the more preferred ingredient because they have fewer side effects compared to retinoids.
